Ethan 'Red' Husted has been a part of footbag for over 30 years now. Beginning his career in Columbia MO in 1993, he learned from the veterans of the time, including fellow Hall of Fame member Derrick Fogle.
Red then moved to San Diego, where he schooled with future Big Add Posse members Richard Abshire, Ryan Mulroney, Chad Devlahovich, Eric Windsor, and Bryan Fournier.
After this, he relocated to San Francisco where he joined the Bay Area Footbag League, training with such icons as Peter Irish, Tim Kelly, Eric Wulff, Tuan Vu, Tu Vu, Sunil Jani, and Ahren Gehrman.
In 1997 at the World Footbag Championships in Portland Oregon, he was inducted into the prestigious group of professional-level footbag players, the Big Add Posse (BAP).
Red next moved to Boulder CO, where he helped found the Boulder Blades, a group consisting of many fresh BAP members including Dave Holton, Eli Piltz, John Schneider, and Brian McKenzie. They also played regularly with local veterans Rippin' Rick Reese and Daryl Genz. The group ran many successful events, including the Colorado Shred Symposium. During this time, Red hit the first quadruple dex move (going around the footbag four times), which he named Shooting Star.
After graduating from the University of Colorado, Red moved to Portland Oregon. With the help of such footbag legends as John Stalberger, Ted Huff, Kenny Shults, Chris Seibert, Tricia George, and Paul Vorvick, he became an organizer for the Sole Purpose Footbag Group, the longest-running and oldest footbag club in the world. The group ran many successful US Open Footbag Championships, and was the largest club in the country. During this time Red also produced a series of videos showcasing the best in North American freestyle, including the Fourkast DVD. He regularly performed shows with John Stalberger, Nick Landes, and Scott Bevier. During this time he also formed Fourkast, a promotional footbag company which included videos, sponsored players, and event management.
In 2013 Red relocated to Boise ID, and helped found the Boise Footclan, which included master freestylers Jim Penske, Daryl Genz, Sunny Freeman, Nick Landes, Evan Gatesman, and Lon Smith. There they produced numerous videos and ran the US Open in 2016.
Other accomplishments:
Red was featured in the big budget film 'You Don't Mess with the Zohan' in 2007. He has also organized the Big Add Posse vote/inductions a number of times over the years. Red has helped run many events, including the World Footbag Championships. He received the prestigious Mike Marshall Award in 2017 for his work in the sport, and is currently the president of the Footbag Hall of Fame.
